I am delighted to share my review with you today on Blog Tour for The Telephone Call by Michael Pakenham
When Rosemary Sherwood overhears a disturbing conversation between her husband, Harry Sherwood and an unknown caller, she has no idea that her life’s about to change forever. Fleeing to France for fear of her own safety, Harry threatens to kill their son if she ever dares to breathe a word of anything she overheard.
Torn between hiding out in France and re-connecting with her estranged son, Rosemary returns to England twelve years later believing that she and her son are now out of danger…
A web of deceit and lies has been woven over the years to cover up the antics of Harry and his friends, who are no strangers to violence and murder and who will stop at nothing to ensure they aren’t exposed.
Private Detective Daniel Appleman takes on the case, but can he track down these men before they wreak havoc on the Sherwood family?
First of all I have to say that the cover and book title totally sold this book to me. So like always I went into this having no idea what to expect and not realising this is the second book in the series. never the less that didn’t spoil the enjoyment for me. This can easily be read has a standalone.
For me this was the first time I have met Daniel Appleman. A character I took a shine to he is determined, has a heart and his married with two children. We get to meet him in the second part of the story.
The first part opens with a very intriguing and gripping start. Setting the scene for the investigation. ( which is the second part of the book) And leaves the reading wanting to know more. That was it for me I was well and truly hooked and couldn’t but this book down. The author drops out pieces to the puzzle throughout the story. Which are cleverly woven together at the end, which is tied up really nicely.
The Telephone Call is a dark and twisty story and utterly addictive, I read this book in one seating! The are plenty of OMG moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I am excited that I have found a new author a detective series to read.
If you are looking for a new crime thriller to read then this is the book for you. Which I highly recommend.
Thank you to Rachel Gilby for a copy and for the blog tour invite.
