She thought he’d come to save her. She was wrong.
Deborah Jenkins pulls her coat around her as she sets out on her short walk home in the pouring rain. But she never makes it home that night. And she is never seen again …
Four years later, an abandoned baby girl is found wrapped in dirty rags on a doorstep. An anonymous phone call urges the police to run a DNA test on the baby. But nobody is prepared for the results.
The newborn belongs to Deborah. She’s still alive.
The Next Girl is the first book in the Detective Gina Harte series….Yes I have finally started it. And it has been sitting on my TBR pile for quiet some time now, with book three released earlier this year and book four coming out soon I thought I had better get a move on.
Anyway I do have to mention that I listened to this on audio, and I wont be doing it again….I will stick to reading this series. So bearing in mind that this book is set local to me, I couldn’t help but laugh at the narrators Brummie accent ( well I think that’s what it was) I couldn’t help think do we really sound like that?! erm NO I don’t think so.
If it wasn’t for the gripping plot I would of gave up on the audio version!
Ok so lets talk about the book….after watching a programme on the television only a few days earlier about a lady being dumped when she was a baby outside someones house, I found myself very intrigued by this story. Wanting to know what was going to happen to the poor baby girl that was found in this story.Would she be reunited with her mother or would she live her life parent less are the answers to the questions I wanted to know. Being a mother myself wondering who in there right mind would do this?! OMG so many questions….
The Next Girl is one hell of an addictive story, the more I read the more I wanted to know. It is certainly packed full of mystery and suspense
I have to say I loved Gina who is head strong but hasn’t had the easiest life. You will understand what I mean when you read it for yourself. I am looking forward to getting to know her more throughout the series.
What more can I say but this is a gripping read and a brilliant start to a new series. And not forgetting that I have found a new author to read,I actually can not wait to get stuck into the next book.
