Home Is Where The Nightmare Is

Beautiful double room to let to single person

Lisa, a troubled young woman with a past, can’t believe her luck when she finds a beautiful room to rent in a large house. The live-in owners are a kind and welcoming couple. Everything is fine until she finds a suicide note hidden in her room. But when the couple insist this man didn’t exist and that Lisa is their first tenant, Lisa begins to doubt herself.

Compelled to undercover the secrets of the man who lived in the room before her, Lisa is alarmed when increasingly disturbing incidents start to happen. Someone doesn’t want Lisa to find out the truth.

As the four walls of this house and its secrets begin to close in on Lisa, she descends into a hellish hall of mirrors where she’s not sure what’s real and what’s not as she claws her way towards the truth…

Did this room already claim one victim?

Is it about to take another?

My Thoughts

OMG OMG OMG what a story…First of all I have to say that I am a massive fan of Dreda Say Mitchell so you can imagine how excited I was I to read The Spare Room. And this is actually the first book that I have this year….OMG are you guys in for a treat I cannot begin to tell you how fantastic this book is. It will blow your mind!

For those of you that have read Dreda’s book this is not your normal grit lit style which you would expect from the author What makes it even more epic is the fact that the author has swapped genre….yes you read that right. Dreda has delivered a high quality psychological thriller. That will certainly get your heart racing and leave you breath This is most definitely what a psychological thriller is all about. I am so excited for you guys to read it.

The story starts off with an OMG prologue, then we meet Lisa who rents a room in a house owed by a couple Lisa cant believe her look, until things take a turn and she finds a letter hidden in her this isn’t any old letter it is in fact a suicide note! Lisa is on a mission to unravel the secrets of the man who lived there before her….and that’s just the start!

The author slowly draws you in building up the characters with one hell of a twisty plot, dropping pieces of the puzzle all the way through. Before I knew it I had devoured this book in one sitting and found myself totally wrapped up in mystery of The Spare Room I simply couldn’t put it down. This story is creepy and oh so twisty and will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to end. I really liked Lisa’s character and the author makes you feel like you are part of the story willing her along and questioning things.

This is one very clever story where you get that involved you start asking questions and want answers yourself. Absolutely fan-flippin-tasic…..What a book to start 2019 off with! I cannot recommend it enough giving it all the stars.

I would like to thank Emma at Blood Hound Books for an ARC and inviting me along to take part.
